Prof. Dr. Kirsten Lauber is a leading researcher in molecular oncology and radiation biology at the Department of Radiation Therapy and Radiooncology at LMU Klinikum Munich. Since 2011, she has headed the Molecular Oncology research unit, focusing on biologically and immunologically motivated strategies to enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy.

Prof. Lauber's team investigates how radiotherapy can be optimized by understanding the biological characteristics of specific tumors. Their research explores the molecular mechanisms of cell death induced by radiation, the interaction of dying cells with the innate immune system, and how these processes can be harnessed to induce adaptive anti-tumor immune responses. Additionally, they study the cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to inflammatory side effects, such as radiation-induced pneumonitis.
Prof. Lauber's research work contributes to personalized treatment strategies by integrating molecular and immunological insights into radiotherapy. This approach aims to enhance the precision and effectiveness of cancer treatments, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
