In the upcoming DKTK Tech Talk Philipp Putze will present recent developments in computational methods for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics and discuss their potential for advancing biological and cancer research.

Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics now enable researchers to study biological systems at an unprecedented scale. At the same time, rapidly growing datasets introduce substantial computational challenges, including technical noise, batch effects and the integration of complex molecular modalities.

In his talk, Philipp Putze will trace the evolution of computational approaches in single-cell biology, from linear methods such as principal component analysis to deep generative models that separate biological signals from technical variation. He will also explore the emergence of single-cell foundation models and their potential to support cross-dataset integration, multimodal patient stratification and biological discovery.

Philipp Putze is a PhD candidate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). His research combines machine learning and cancer biology to develop computational methods for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics at atlas scale.
