HIRO and OncoRay Lecture ­Series "Radiation Research in ­Oncology": IMAGING TECHNOLOGY I (Prof. Dr. Marc Kachelrieß)

This Seminar is part of the lecture series "Radiation Research in Oncology" with a total of 18 talks over the course of 2 years (9 lectures per year). The talks are given by lecturers from Heidelberg or Dresden and can also be attended at the partner site via a live video stream. The lectures are designed for a broad audience with the goal of providing an overview of a wide range of topics relevant to radiooncological research, including in the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, and technology.

Macroscopic imaging in medicine is based on several physical principles ranging from ultrasound to ionizing radiation coming from sources outside or inside the patient. Accordingly, the questions to be answered by the different methods and the content of information of the resulting images are quite different. In Imaging Technology I, the physical and technical principles of computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) will be presented.
