Summary

Frank Braun investigates cell death mechanisms in various tumor entities. The primary focus is on overcoming apoptosis blockades, with the goal of improving existing therapeutic approaches and/or developing new treatment concepts.

In addition to conventional 2D cell culture techniques, various 3D methods are employed to generate and analyze tumor organoids. Research projects within the department investigate expression profiles from patient samples as well as the impact of metabolic changes on tumor cells. With his research, he aims to address a wide range of clinically relevant questions through both basic and translational research, which is done in close collaboration between scientists and surgeons. Furthermore, the Department of Surgical Research plays an important role in the education and training of future surgeons and scientists.
