The Paul Ehrlich Foundation annually awards this prize to a young independent postdoctoral scientist working in Germany for outstanding research in the field of life sciences. The Paul Ehrlich & Ludwig Darmstaedter Early Career Award is endowed with € 60,000 to be used for research-related purposes.

University professors and directors of research institutions in Germany are eligible to submit nominations. Self-applications will not be considered. Candidates should be under 40 years old at the time of the award ceremony (exceptions according to DFG rules) and not hold a tenured professorship or comparable position. Proposals are requested in English (in a single PDF) and via e-mail no later than Friday, April 26, 2024. The file should include a detailed justification, a list of publications highlighting the three most important papers, these three publications in full length, as well as the candidate's curriculum vitae.

The award winner is nominated by the Scientific Council of the Paul Ehrlich Foundation upon recommendation of the Selection Committee. The award ceremony will take place in the historic Paulskirche, Frankfurt/M., a renowned symbol of Germany's democracy, on March 14, 2025 - coinciding with Paul Ehrlich's birthday.
