Patient involvement has become an essential part of modern cancer research because it makes research more relevant to the actual target group and it is a mandatory requirement in many research funding calls. But how can patient perspectives be meaningfully and effectively integrated into research processes? This event aims to provide researchers at DKFZ and its translational partner institutions with practical insights and concrete examples to answer this question.
Highlights:
- Introduction to patient involvement structures at DKFZ/DKTK and NCT (Delia Braun, Markus Wartenberg/Annette Schilling)
- Personal experiences from patient representatives (Rudi Hauke, Cindy Körner)
- BACTORG Project (DKTK): Investigating how gut bacteria influence colorectal cancer growth to develop new prevention and treatment strategies (Johannes Förner, Jens Puschhof)
- LEONORA Trial (NCT): A large randomized controlled trial testing synbiotics to improve the gastrointestinal quality of life in colorectal cancer patients after surgery (Mike Butler, Ben Schöttker)
