DKTK Core Facilities: Liquid Biopsy

"Liquid Biopsy" is a modern, with few exceptions, experimental method of analysis to obtain information about a cancerous disease, usually from a blood sample. Circulating tumor cells or parts of their genetic material are easily accessible in the blood. Therefore, they can provide helpful information about a cancer disease and its course: Certain characteristics can be used as "biomarkers" not only to detect cancer, but also to monitor the disease or already in the early detection of cancer.

Find out more about this method from Professor Holger Sültmann, DKTK Professor and Head of Department at DKFZ, in the following video (in German).
