Summary

Dr. Benedikt Westphalen is a clinician scientist at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the University of Munich, where he leads the Molecular Tumor Board and is head of the Precision Oncology Program. In the setting of precision oncology, Dr. Westphalen focuses on outcomes research, reverse and forward translation and the integration of multidimensional datasets. In addition to extensive training in basic and translational research, Dr. Westphalen has served as investigator, study coordinator and principal investigator on multiple phase I-III clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancers and precision oncology.

Promoting the sustainable implementation of precision oncology into clinical care, Dr. Westphalen has been involved in various national and international initiatives, advising the European Commission in the setting of the Cancer Mission Board and the German Ministry of Research and Education as part of the Forum #Zukunftstrategie. As of January 2024, Benedikt Westphalen serves as chair of the ESMO Translational Research and Precision Medicine Working Group.
