Awarding of the 3rd Wilko Weichert Grant

At the DKTK partner site Munich, the Wilko Weichert Grant is awarded annually for an interdisciplinary, early-career-supporting, and cross-LMU/TUM project. In 2025, the project “Investigation of therapy-induced vascular changes in glioblastoma using in situ sequencing” was rated best by the review committee. Dr. Johannes Wirth (Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy of the Technical University of Munich TUM) as recipient of the 3rd Wilko Weichert Grant will receive EUR 30,000 funding for his scientific research in 2026.

The award ceremony took place at the CCC Munich Retreat on October 1, 2025. With lectures on translational research and precision oncology, the event once again highlighted the close collaboration between CCC, BZKF, and DKTK at the Munich site. Prof. Michael von Bergwelt (DKTK Munich Spokesperson) presented not only the certificate for the Wilko Weichert grant but also a mug of FC St. Pauli, the favorite football club of Prof. Wilko Weichert.

The grant is awarded in memory of Prof. Wilko Weichert, DKTK Spokesperson at partner site Munich and Director of the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy at TUM until 2023. How nice, that this year the award returned to Prof. Weichert’s former place of work.
