Previously, David Capper worked as senior physician of Neuropathology at the University Hospital Heidelberg and was member of the Clinical Cooperation Unit Neuropathology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). His research focuses on the Pathology and genetics of tumors of the central nervous system with a special focus on the development of specific diagnostic markers ("mutation-specific monoclonal antibody") and classification of brain tumors by genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation patterns.

For several national and international studies  such as the INFORM register study he headed the central pathology. As part of the DKTK Berlin he will promote the construction of a pipeline for the analysis of tumor methylation patterns, which influence the genetic activity of tumor cells
