The professorship was set up jointly with the German Cancer Research Center. As professorship of the partner site Freiburg of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), the post is based at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Freiburg University Hospital.

Matthias Eder was most recently employed at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. His research focuses on the clinically oriented and application-focused development of new radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

At his new post in Freiburg, Prof. Eder will work within collaborative research bodies, like the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF), and contribute to the specialist research program on “Monitoring cell motility in morphogenesis, tumor invasion and metastasis”. “Our aim,” says Prof. Eder, “is to use biotechnological methods to develop innovative radiopharmaceuticals that target specific components of tumor cells to facilitate molecular imaging of tumor-specific changes.”
