Decode-UM (Decoding the cellular ecosystem of uveal melanoma for monitoring and therapeutic targeting)

Program: CI Funding Line: INNOVATION Project type: research project Entity: skin cancer Status: current

In the interdisciplinary research project Decode-UM, DKTK scientists are investigating mechanisms responsible for the development and spread of uveal melanoma, an aggressive form of cancer in the eye. Although there are very well established local therapies available (radiotherapy, surgery), long-term effective therapies for the metastatic situation are highly limited. In a significant proportion of patients, metastases occur after months to many years, especially in the liver. The team is applying innovative methods such as single-cell analyses, mass spectrometry and liquid biopsy to decipher the tumor ecosystem, monitor the course of therapy and develop new therapeutic approaches. A combination of clinical and scientific activities is especially meaningful in rare tumor entities such as this one, and is pursued by Decode-UM in an integrative approach.
