JF-PSMA (Combined molecular and imaging-based characterization and prognostication of primary high risk prostate cancer from the multicenter 68Ga-PSMA-11 DKTK trial)

Program: ROI Funding Line: UPGRADE Project type: study-related research project Entity: prostate cancer Status: current

The DKTK-sponsored prospective Phase I/II study on the preoperative diagnosis of high-risk prostate cancer has made an essential contribution to the establishment of imaging with 68Ga-PSMA11 PET/CT in this disease. In this study, a marked variability in PSMA radioligand uptake was observed. The molecular mechanisms behind these differences still need to be understood. Reasons could be the differences in PSMA expression in different patients, but also between different tumor foci of a patient, tumor cell density and blood flow to the tumor. In this follow-up research project, the special molecular and histomorphological basis for tumor imaging in PET will be investigated. In addition, combining imaging, histomorphological and molecular properties will be analysed to enable better prognostication in the future by combining different data.
